Headlines for July 29 - August 4

A Stand For Justice

Obama Warned Israel May Bomb Iran by Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity
This time around, Mullen returned with sweaty palms from a visit to Israel in February 2010. Ever since, he has been worrying aloud that Israel might mousetrap the U.S. into war with Iran, while adding the obligatory assurance that the Pentagon does have an attack plan for Iran, if needed. Veteran intelligence officials including Philip Giraldi and Ray McGovern warn our government about the impending strike on Iran by Israel, and the consequences. These intelligence veterans are heroes.

Soldiers and Police Arrest Son and Son in Law in Baqa'a Valley
In addition to destroying the irrigation pipes in the grape and tomato fields, the police entered the house this time by force. The father of the family and his wife were up at the time, but the rest of the family was still in bed sleeping when the police arrived. The police beat the son, the daughter and son-in-law, and the other daughter of the farmer

Blast in Gaza wounds 24 Palestinians
An explosion in the house of a Hamas commander in the Gaza Strip has wounded 24 people, a Hamas official and medical workers in the Palestinian territory said on Monday.

David Cameron: Israeli blockade has turned Gaza Strip into a 'prison camp'

Gaza girls turn to fishing to feed family
The girls know their trade is risky, and at times they have had to ditch their nets and race back to shore at the sound of Israeli gunfire. Both know of fishermen who have been shot and wounded out at sea.

"Sometimes I get really scared," Reem said. "But I am not ashamed around my friends at school because I help my father and my siblings, and I am reducing the burden on my mother."

Kites fill skies over Gaza as children reach for record

Lobby group alleges mistreatment of young Palestinian prisoners in Israel
The organisation, Defence for Children International, has collected more than 100 pages of evidence from the affidavits of minors it says have been beaten, threatened or coerced into signing wrongful confessions.
Since when is Defense for Children International a 'lobby group'?

Rockets fired at Israel, Jordan resorts; 1 dead
The rockets appeared to have been fired from Egypt's Sinai peninsula, an Israeli police spokesman said, though Egypt denied the claim.

Settlers seize home in Jerusalem's Muslim Quarter
Jewish settlers on Thursday took over a building in the Muslim Quarter of Jerusalem's Old City and evicted dozens of Palestinian tenants, residents and police said, prompting a sharp protest by the top regional U.N. envoy.

US money transfer sites used in Dubai assassination: report
US websites that allow employers to transfer money to far–flung employees may have been used to secretly finance the assassination of a Hamas leader in Dubai, a US newspaper reported Saturday.
You don't say?

Israeli settlers evict Palestinian family from their home of 70 years
Israeli settlers took over a Palestinian home in the Muslim quarter of Jerusalem's Old City today, evicting about 45 members of an extended family which has occupied the building for more than 70 years.

PLO official says Obama sent warning to Abbas
President Barack Obama warned Mahmoud Abbas in a letter that U.S.–Palestinian relations might suffer if the Palestinian leader refuses to resume direct peace talks with Israel, a senior PLO official said Saturday....Abbas insists he will only negotiate once Israel commits to the idea of a Palestinian state in the West Bank, Gaza and east Jerusalem, with minor modifications. He also wants Israel to freeze all settlement construction in those areas.

UN faults Israel's human rights
A UN panel of experts called Friday on Israel to fall in line with international norms on civil rights and to take action against targeted killings, torture and impunity for security forces.

The UN Human Rights Committee also called for an end to the blockade of Gaza and questioned the independence of Israel's own inquiry into a naval raid on a Gaza-bound relief supply ship in which nine Turkish nationals dead.....The 18 independent experts, tasked with reviewing how the treaty is applied in each nation that has signed up to it, also took issue with the 'extensive use' of administrative detention without fair trial, including for children.

Fury as Israel president claims English are 'anti-semitic'
The controversy follows the furore last week over David Cameron's remark that Gaza was a "prison camp", as he urged Israel to allow aid and people to move freely in and out of the Palestinian territory. You speak the truth about Israel and you get called an 'anti-Semite'.

Lebanon, Israel clash near border; at least 4 dead
Lebanese and Israeli troops exchanged fire Tuesday in a fierce border battle that killed a senior Israeli officer, two Lebanese soldiers and a journalist – underlining how easily tensions can re–ignite along the frontier where Israel and Hezbollah fought a war four years ago.

Lebanese president: Stand up to Israel
Lebanese President Michel Suleiman has vowed to "stand up to Israel's violation of Resolution 1701, whatever the price" following the border flare-up between the Lebanese and Israeli armies Tuesday.

US boosts Israeli missile funding
US House appropriators have pushed funding for Israeli missile defense programs to its highest level ever, with $422.7 million now slated for 2011.
Americans need that money more than Israel does.

Chas Freeman Lets Rip on Israel as a Strategic Liability
having been very publicly and unfairly discredited by the pro-Israel crowd, Freeman can walk that rare line and speak honestly about the Jewish state without drowning in the caveats that accompany most such attempts in Washington. All Americans need to read the excerpt of Freeman's speech.

Assad: We'll support Lebanon in face of criminal Israeli aggression
Three Lebanese soldiers and one Lebanese journalist were killed Tuesday when Israeli soldiers exchanged fire with Lebanese soldiers at the border.

No Blank Checks for the GOP — or Likud by Patrick J. Buchanan
Since June 1914, a “blank check” given by one nation to another for war has been regarded as strategic folly.

Thus it is startling to learn 47 House Republicans just signed on to H.R. 1553 declaring unequivocal “support for Israel’s right to use all means necessary to confront and eliminate nuclear threats posed by Iran … including the use of military force.” These Republicans have just given Tel Aviv a blank check for a pre-emptive war that Israel, unless it uses its nuclear weapons, can start but not finish. Fighting and finishing that war would fall to the armed forces of the United States...Indeed, the principal purpose and result of an Israeli pre-emptive war on Iran, bringing retaliation on Israel, would be to drag America in to fight and finish a war Israel had begun.
The mainstream media has still refused to pick up this story.

Israel to take part in UN probe of flotilla raid
Israel plans to send an official to participate in the panel's deliberations and will furnish reports from its own internal inquiry, according to the statement. Israel will attempt to whitewash.

Israel's harassment of citizens could ignite uprising, warns Arab politician

Turkey Summons Israel Ambassador over Barak Remark
Turkey has summoned Israel's ambassador in Ankara, Gabi Levy, to a diplomatic dressing-down following remarks by Defense Minister Ehud Barak Sunday. Barak expressed concern that Turkey's new undersecretary of the National Intelligence Organization (MİT), Hakan Fidan, could pass classified Israeli information into the hands of Iran.

Robert Fisk: Israel has crept into the EU without anyone noticing
The EU funds millions of pounds' worth of projects in Gaza. These are regularly destroyed by Israel's American-made weaponry. So it goes like this. European taxpayers fork out for the projects. US taxpayers fork out for the weapons which Israel uses to destroy them. Then EU taxpayers fork out for the whole lot to be rebuilt. And then US taxpayers... Well, you've got the point.

Turkey summons US diplomat
Turkey has summoned a top US diplomat to protest against Washington's interference in a UN mandate probing Israel's deadly attack on a Gaza-bound aid flotilla.

The Law of Return at 60: Revisiting (and Revising) a Zionist Pillar
In 1950 and even in 1970, Israel was still a poor and fledgling state surrounded by enemies. Anyone who wanted to immigrate was, almost by definition, someone who desired to cast his or her lot with the Jewish people.

Today’s Israel, by contrast, is economically prosperous and, hence, a potential magnet for immigrants. At the same time, it is a society suffering from deep social cleavages. The Law of Return and the corresponding citizenship law need to be reformed to meet Israel’s current needs.
Read the excerpt by Freeman in this news batch. Americans by the millions get food stamps as billions of our taxpayer dollars are handed to 'economicall prosperous' Israel.

Damascus: Syria-Saudi ties are none of U.S.'s business
Abdullah will hold talks with Syrian President Bashar Assad in the Syrian capital before they travel together to Beirut on Friday to try to calm tension over a tribunal to try suspects in the 2005 assassination of Lebanese statesman Rafik Hariri. They are, thanks to Israel. Israel's problems have become OUR problems.

Book condoning murder has another rabbi in hot water

A Peaceful Boycott Should Not be a Crime
A bill that is currently before the Knesset would allow Israelis who support boycotts against Israel to be sued for damages. The bill is part of a government backlash against a small but growing number of Israelis who have taken up the tactic of boycott, sanctions and divestment (BDS) to bring about an end to their government's occupation of the West Bank and Gaza

‘Huffpo’ corrects ‘Times’ smear that Arabs don’t care about Palestinians

Foxman Really Outdoes Himself on Mosque Issue
The ADL’s Abe Foxman, who harshly attacked Gen. David Petraeus when the general asserted Congressional testimony earlier this year that the lack of progress toward an Israeli-Palestinian peace settlement made his job throughout the Arab world more difficult, is, of course, a pillar of the so-called “Israel Lobby.”

Beck’s Holocaust comments prompt Fox News meeting
Beck has won praise from some in the Jewish community for focusing on Nazi atrocities, though. Morton A. Klein, national president of the Zionist Organization of America, wrote in support of Beck, saying that he "deeply believes the Holocaust is the most vicious and monstrous behavior in human history" and "believes we must stay on high alert to make sure it never happens again."

Beck's also a strong supporter of the policies of the current Israeli government. Indeed, the Israeli government even highlighted Beck's coverage of the recent flotilla raid.
Beck is another pandering nitwit.

Flare-up over tree accents Israel-Lebanon tension
The clash started after an Israeli soldier on a crane dangled over a fence near the border early Tuesday to trim a tree that could provide cover for infiltrators. The Israelis said they clear such underbrush at least once a week and coordinate their actions with UNIFIL, the peacekeeping force that has been in the area for more than 30 years.

Price for a potential Israeli strike on Iran A Palestinian state.
My prediction: Israel will strike Iran, drawing the US into a wider war, and there still won't be a Palestinian state in the near future.

Who Owns General Petraeus by Philip Giraldi
Many who harbor political ambitions rightly fear the power of the Israel Lobby, but fear is a far remove from affection. Many Congressmen held hostage by the Lobby resent it and long for the time when they would be able to support genuine American interests relating to the Middle East. Petraeus surely understands that no one can get nominated by a major party to run for president of the United States if the Israel Lobby and its media supporters say no. The mainstream media ignored this story, as one would expect.

Does the Middle East Face an Israel-Lebanon Regional War?

The “Summer Camp Of Destruction:” Israeli High Schoolers Assist The Razing Of A Bedouin Town
On July 26, Israeli police demolished 45 buildings in the unrecognized Bedouin village of al-Arakib, razing the entire village to the ground to make way for a Jewish National Fund forest......One of the most troubling aspects of the destruction of al-Arakib was a report by CNN that the hundreds of Israeli riot police who stormed the village were accompanied by “busloads of cheering civilians.”

Ethnic cleansing in the Israeli Negev
They say the next intifada will be the Bedouin intifada. There are 155,000 Bedouins in the Negev, and more than half of them live in unrecognised villages without electricity or running water. I do not know what they might do, but by making 300 people homeless, 200 of them children, Israel is surely sowing dragon's teeth for the future.

Why put an attack on Iran back on the table?
I suspect that the real reason for the new flood of commentary calling for attacks on Iran is simply that hawks hope to pocket their winnings from the long argument over sanctions, such as they are, and now push to the next stage in the confrontation they've long demanded

Rabbis oppose Yitzhak's arrest

Activist Supports Probe of Aid Raid
Ann Wright, who served 29 years in the Army and nearly six years as a diplomat for the State Department, was one of three department officials to resign over the March 2003 invasion of Iraq.

Now an outspoken peace activist, Wright took part in the May 30-31 Gaza Aid Flotilla in which six civilian ships tried to go through Israel's naval blockade of the Gaza Strip, ostensibly to bring humanitarian aid to Palestinian civilians.

Republicans offer Israel green light to bomb Iran

AIPAC Goes to College: Teaching Americans to Put Israel First

The Real Aim of Israel’s Bomb Iran Campaign
What is important to understand about this campaign is that the aim of Gerecht and of the right-wing government of Benjamin Netanyahu is to support an attack by Israel so that the United States can be drawn into direct, full-scale war with Iran.

That has long been the Israeli strategy for Iran, because Israel cannot fight a war with Iran without full U.S. involvement. Israel needs to know that the United States will finish the war that Israel wants to start.

Australia approves new Iran sanctions
Outside the pro-Israeli lobby in America, its counterparts reside in Canada, Australia and Britain.

War on terror's other cost: undeserved anger at all Muslims
We encountered not one single moment of hostility, not from anyone anywhere in that devoutly Muslim country. It was 1998.
