Under a sea blockade, the coastal Gaza Strip has now become a seafood importer. Its desperate fishermen – cut off from plentiful fishing grounds by Israeli patrol boats – have turned to sneaking into Egyptian waters in tiny motorboats to buy their catch and bring it home.



Jerusalem plan would demolish Palestinian homes
Jerusalem's mayor unveiled a plan Tuesday to demolish dozens of Palestinian homes to make room for a tourist center in one of the disputed city's most volatile neighborhoods, drawing criticism from Palestinians and the United Nations...."There is no way the Palestinians can accept the demolishing of houses in Jerusalem and the continuation of building settlements for the Jewish settlers, while the United States is trying to bring the parties together,"

Although there was brief localised stone throwing by Palestinian boys watching the demonstrators walk through their neighbourhood, the Palestinian leadership was determined that the demonstration would be free from violence. Despite the Israeli military’s prolonged and repeated use of tear gas and percussion grenades the demonstrators’ discipline held and the action remained non-violent throughout.
