Headlines for February 18 - February 24

A Stand For Justice

Palestinian president warns of 'religious war'
The Palestinian president warned Tuesday that the region could plunge into a "religious war" over Israel's plans to recognize a disputed West Bank shrine as one of its own national heritage sites.

Dubai wants head of Mossad arrested over Hamas assassination
Ironically, it will be the Palestinians that will be the ones to be arrested in this case. The Israelis will remain above the law, as usual.

Death in Dubai: the plot thickens
Vienna has been dragged in, with the hit squad using pre–paid Austrian mobile phone numbers. Israel is already feeling the international heat after the critical Goldstone report into its conduct during the Gaza war, and will not want its critics to have more ammunition.

Britain's Explanation is Riddled with Inconsistencies. It's Time to Come Clean
"We have identified five credit cards belonging to these people, all issued in the United States." Strange how nobody is mentioning this US angle here in the States. The reason is probably the same reason why the US is a target by terror groups, while the EU and Australia are not.

Israel refuses to help Britain with inquiry into fake passports
Israeli foreign minister Avigdor Lieberman yesterday flatly rebuffed David Miliband's request for cooperation with an investigation into the use of forged British passports in the assassination of a Hamas leader.

Hamas: Story about leader's son on Shin Bet payroll is Zionist propaganda
Hamas on Wednesday attempted to refute the exclusive published in Haaretz about Mosab Hassan Yousef, the son of a Hamas founder and one of its leaders in the West Bank, who also worked for Israel's Shin Bet security service for 10 years.

AT-TUWANI RELEASE: Israeli soldiers arrest Palestinian shepherd, assault
Abu Jundiyye, 19, was grazing his flock near Tuba when four Israeli soldiers,
coming from the nearby Ma'on settlement, chased him and another shepherd back to
Tuba. The soldiers aggressively pursued the two shepherds while Tuba families
attempted to keep the soldiers away from them. One soldier head-butted a
Palestinian youth who was pleading for an explanation why his brother was being
arrested. Another soldier loaded his rifle and pointed it in the air,
threatening to shoot, forcing the families to quell their protest.

Netanyahu statement on Ibrahimi Mosque leads to unrest in Al Khalil/Hebron
Around 0830, Palestinian boys made their own response to the statement by throwing stones near the Qitoun checkpoint in the Yatta Road, while other Palestinians threw stones at soldiers between Bab il Baledeyya and Bab iZaweyya. Press reports have suggested that bottles were also thrown, but CPTers saw nothing thrown apart from stones. The Israeli military's response was to shoot repeated rounds of tear gas at the Palestinians, causing alarm and discomfort to people on the street and in their homes and shops.

U.S. Delays Iran Sanctions While Persuading Israel Not To Attack
“The main issue is coordination and exchange of views on Iran,” an Israeli diplomat briefed on the talks said. “It is mainly about sharing estimates and intelligence.” But another official, based in Israel, said it is clear that both countries have also used these talks to shore up unwritten understandings regarding the way forward on Iran......"as the nuclear issue escalates, dealing with Israel could become as big a challenge for the United States as dealing with Iran.” Because Israel is more willing than the United States to use military force, “an eventual U.S.-Israeli crisis is likely,” the analysts wrote.

West Bank shrines on Israeli heritage list
One of the sites, in the city of Hebron, has been a flashpoint for decades. Jews call it the Cave of the Patriarchs, where the Bible says the patriarchs Abraham, Isaac and Jacob were buried along with three of their wives.

Israeli immigration officials copied British passports used by hit squad, ministers told
The six British citizens whose identities were stolen and used by the killers all had their passports taken away from them briefly during routine checks at the airport, it has been claimed. Notice how all of these stories about the Mossad Dubai incident appear in the BRITISH press? There is a near total blackout about this story in the American media. Also, take note of the excerpt above: Israeli security companies work in the British airports? How about in the airports of the other nations who saw their forged passports being used in this Mossad hit? Israeli security companies provide security at airports in many Western nations, including America (they were at Logan when 9/11 occurred).

US slams Israel over designating heritage sites
The Obama administration criticized Israel Wednesday for designating two shrines on Palestinian territory as national heritage sites.

UN: Israel 'heritage sites' are on Palestinian land
"I'm concerned over the proclamation made over the sites in Bethlehem and Hebron," Serry said, adding that "those sites are in Palestinian territory and bear an importance no only in Judaism but in Islam as well." Most of Israel is in Palestinian territory, but that's never stopped them.

Israeli forces wound six Palestinians: medics
An army spokesman said "Israeli soldiers spotted silhouettes approaching the security barrier separating the Gaza Strip (from Israel), and opened fire at them."

US Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation How Much Military Aid to Israel
The budget deficit in New York State is roughly equal to the amount that New York State taxpayers are paying in aid to Israel. While more Americans go jobless, homeless, and as Paterson is poised to close many state parks in New York State, we are instead giving the hard-earned taxpayer's dollars to a nation that repeatedly commits war crimes, that is stealing and occupying the land of another people, and whose economy is evidently not in the grave state as is the case with ours.

EU to censure Israel after Dubai killing
The statement will increase diplomatic pressure on Israel but is unlikely to have any long–term repercussions for EU–Israeli ties, diplomats say.

New Grist for Hype on Iran by Ray McGovern
Press reports over the past few days – as well as past experience – strongly suggest that the “new evidence” cited by the Times may have comes from the usual suspects – agenda-laden sources, like Israeli intelligence.

Dubai 15 more suspects in Hamas slaying
It brings the total number of suspects using foreign passports to 12 British, six Irish, four French, three Australian and one German. Two other Palestinians also have been detained.

Credit cards implicate Mossad in Dubai hit report

Clinton avoided nuke question - student
If the Americans "so vehemently oppose Iran's nuclear programme,'' she had asked, "then why isn't the US asking Israel to give up their nuclear weapons?'' Ms Clinton gave a lengthy answer detailing the US case against Iran, but did not mention Israel.

Barak heads to U.S. to discuss Iran, Mideast peace talks
Barak will devote much of his visit to the Iranian threat and its implications for Israel's relations with its closest neighbors.

Australia warns Israel over Dubai killing
Australia warned Israel Thursday of a possible diplomatic rift if Israel condoned the use of fraudulent Australian passports in the killing of a Hamas leader.

Israel Goes Rogue by Justin Raimondo
From identity theft to war crimes – is there anything the Israelis won't do?

In Dubai attack, signs of Mossad shadow war

U.S. Lawmakers Blast Boycott of J Street Delegation in Israel
Tension between the Foreign Ministry and J Street was believed to be behind the unprecedented diplomatic rift between Israel and the U.S. Congress.

Nearly 20 percent of U.S. workers underemployed
In findings that appear to paint a darker employment picture than official U.S. data, Gallup estimated that about 30 million Americans are underemployed, meaning either jobless or able to find only part–time work. Again, America can ill afford another war (this time- with Iran).

US demands Syria distance itself from Iran

Prepare for war with Iran -- in case Israel strikes
In a nutshell: we have to prepare for a war on Iran in case Israel strikes. Because if she does, then we will automatically be dragged along.

War game shows how attacking Iran could backfire
Here's a war game involving Iran, Israel and the U.S. that shows how unintended consequences can spin out of control:

‘S-300 delivery a serious development’
Should Teheran acquire the system, a potential military strike on Iranian nuclear sites could become far more difficult, but it remains far from clear when and if Moscow intends to transfer the military hardware to Iran.

CNN Poll: American believe Iran has nuclear weapons
Seven in 10 Americans believe that Iran currently has nuclear weapons, according to a new national poll. Propaganda put forth by Israel's minions in our media works! Congratulations.

Audio: Israeli Ambassador: ‘Don't Expect Much from Obama on Iran’
In a powerful interview, Yoram Ettinger, a former U.S. consul in the United States, said that Israel should not expect Washington to take on Iran.

'An attack on Israel would be considered an attack on Canada'
Junior Foreign Affairs minister Peter Kent is suggesting Canada stands ready to throw its full military weight behind Israel, telling a Toronto publication that “an attack on Israel would be considered an attack on Canada.” Canada has become another Israeli occupied territory thanks to the efforts of its influential Israeli lobby. They will likely at some point face the 'blowback' that my country has as a consequence of this support of Israel.

Israel is Americans' fifth favorite place
Canada remains Americans' favorite country, with an approval rating of 90 percent. That compares to approval ratings of 87 percent for Britain, 80 percent for Germany, 77 percent for Japan and 67 percent for Israel. Israel's rating is that high only because of their hold on the media. We need to change that.

Some Straight Thinking About Iran by Philip Giraldi
the Annual Threat Assessment and the possibly forthcoming NIE would really only confirm the 2007 NIE’s judgment that Iran does not have a nuclear weapon, does not appear to have an in-place weapons program, and is still several years away from having a nuclear device even if the political decision is made to proceed.......Why is Iran the target of so much rage even though it has not threatened the United States or any vital American interest? Influence over Congress and the media from Israel and its friends is surely a large part of the answer. America beware.

Meir Dagan: the mastermind behind Mossad's secret war
Netanyahu was briefed on plans to kill Mahmoud al-Mabhouh, a member of Hamas, the militant Islamic group that controls Gaza.

Israel unveils new drone fleet that can reach Iran
Israel and the U.S. believe Iran is trying to build nuclear weapons; Iran says its program is for peaceful purposes. Notice how the Associated Press continues to say that the US believes Iran is trying to build nuclear weapons when our NIE assessment still does not bear this out. Read the related article by Giraldi in this news batch.

Attack Iran?
Applebaum, not exactly an Iran expert, used her ink in the Post today to warn that President Obama had better start preparing for an Israeli strike on Iran. In fact, that was the title of her op–ed: "Prepare for war with Iran." In it, she suggests that "at some point" Israel's restraint vis–avis Iran could evaporate, partly because President Ahmadinejad "makes(s) the Israelis paranoid." An Israeli strike, she says, "would be followed by retaliation, some of which would be directed at us, our troops in Iraq, our ships at sea." Worth a read, from a few years back: "Four Day War"

CPT-Palestine endorses Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions Movement
CPT-Palestine has decided to endorse formally the Boycott, Divestment and
Sanctions (BDS) movement, as called for by Palestinian NGOs, because sixty years
of negotiations and diplomacy have only enabled Israel to solidify its military
occupation of Palestine

Gwynne Dyer: Mossad's latest blunder

Zuckerman Run Could Mark New Stage in Politics
uckerman came to prominence in the Jewish community during a turbulent term as lay leader of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, a powerful umbrella group on matters pertaining to Israel. His possible Senate candidacy to replace upstate incumbent Kirsten Gillibrand

Israel's smiling PR drive
The ministry for public diplomacy goes to great lengths instructing Israelis how to conduct themselves when engaged in PR on behalf of the state Israeli citizens wouldn't have to if their government would stop stealing and occupying Palestinian land, and attacking the citizens of other nations (Lebanon, as one ex.).

The New Poor
Even as the American economy shows tentative signs of a rebound, the human toll of the recession continues to mount, with millions of Americans remaining out of work, out of savings and nearing the end of their unemployment benefits. The United States can ill afford a new war in the Middle East.

JCPA Taking Direct Aim at Anti-Israel Boycotters
With anti-Israel boycott, divestment and sanctions efforts gaining visibility, the Jewish community’s main public-policy coordinating body is for the first time confronting the BDS movement as a specific and stated priority.
