The State of Israel has been mostly a casual participant in previous world expos. It didn’t even show up for the 1964 World’s Fair, in New York. The ministry earmarked an unprecedented 40 million shekels ($11 million) — half for the building, half for operations — and called a competition that attracted 23 designs.
Israel is ingratiating itself to the new and upcoming superpower - China, now that America (its main beneficiary and abettor at the UN) is on the decline.
